The Doctor from Kashmir

While doing a project in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, I happened to meet an elderly doctor from Kashmir. He was a Kashmiri Pandit forced to flee from Srinagar during the violence in 1989-1990. He used to work as a doctor in government hospital Srinagar when political violence against Kashmiri Pandits started. He shared some brutal details of the violent incidents that forced Kashmiri Pandits to flee their beloved homeland.

I have often met Kashmiri Pandits at various places I lived in India and America. They are very hard working people. The doctor I met in Pennsylvania re-established himself by hard work and his family continues to prosper in India and America. Kashmiri Pandits have faced lot of agony and pain. Main stream media rarely highlights the issues of Kashmiri Pandits. Media projects Kashmir as if it is only about Muslims and Islam. The land of Kashmir is far older than Islam. Kashmiri Pandits have lived there for centuries. Kashmiri Pandits deserve to be resettled in their homeland. None of the previous state governments or central governments did anything to ensure resettlement of Kashmiri Pandits.
