Jhukega nahi saala (I will not bow down) attitude is generally not liked within or outside of any organization. This attitude symbolizes arrogance and pride. Everyone expects others to be humble, manager expects team members to be humble, not to make demands and always be available for work. On the other side team members expect manager to be humble, give timely promotions, hikes, not give much work and also take care of some work by himself/herself.
Another angle of ‘Jhukega nahi saala’ attitude is not to bow down to competition pressure. Microsoft is a good example of this attitude. While I was in college Java was quite popular, object orientedness and platform independence were very appealing. Microsoft had nothing like that, but it did not bow down or bow out, it came up with .Net.
Similarly Microsoft created Xbox to counter PlayStation. Azure was created to counter AWS. Bing was created to counter Google Search.
I had been using linux shell scripting for several years, it is one of the strong points of unix environments, Microsoft is trying to outdo here also with powershell, most recently I got to use powershell extensively for one of my projects, I was really impressed with features of powershell specially the ease with which we can handle csv data, above all powershell is portable and compatible with many linux flavors.
If we look at last many years, Microsoft has not done any original invention, it has mainly launched products to counter existing popular products in market, this strategy has rather proven successful for Microsoft. Azure, Xbox, .Net all helped Microsoft increase its revenue and customer base.
Jhukega nahi saala attitude helped Microsoft to invent and reinvent itself, it continues to be one of the leaders in technology world. On the other hand Yahoo! could not follow the Jhukega nahi saala attitude and bowed out.
I wonder what Microsoft will bring out next, will it create something new to counter blockchain?
