During a casual talk with a senior experienced professional, he shared how labor unions destroyed the textile industry in Bombay (now Mumbai). He also shared how one of his acquaintance outsmarted labor unions but in the entire process he had to shut one of his businesses.
Unionism has always helped few and harmed a majority of labor class. Sometimes unions have been successful in getting short term benefits for labors but their actions have always resulted in long term harm to labors and economy. The crux is unionism has led to joblessness, unions have never helped in job creation.
The current pandemic situation has created lot of joblessness, people are hungry for work in India and elsewhere. This will certainly have long term impact on job markets, salary and work culture.
To prevent Unionism, government and companies should take some actions and provide labors with tools other than unionism to express their frustration or anger. I believe one such tool is Criticism. Criticism many times help get rid of frustration. Even labors should try to keep themselves away from unions and unionism, this will help in boosting the economy. By sticking to criticism they will be able to help create a better work environment, this will further reduce the need of unions and unionism.
Communism has already failed in many countries, Socialism is failing in many countries at the moment, only Capitalism will survive. Labor class needs better tools, so that they do what is good for all and not lead to self destruction because of some temporary frustration or anger.
