I heard a speech from a wise man where he made a very bold statement that ‘Bill Gates does not know how to give’. The wise man further said that ‘ A small check here a small check there is not the right way, a true giving heart would give away everything via ONE CHECK’. This bold statement shook my intelligence. Bill Gates is always in news about giving something here and there, to me he is one of the most generous person alive, then comes a person who says this is not the right way of giving.
I thought about the bold statement several times and then was reminded of an ancient Indian story where Lord Krishna demonstrates the giving heart of Karn (Warrior from story of Mahabharat). Karn and Duryodhan (Evil prince from story of Mahabharat) are given 3 mountains of gold each and asked to give them away. Duryodhan gives small stones to passerby whereas Karn quickly finishes by simply donating the 3 mountains of gold to 3 passerby.
The wise man said the act of giving demonstrated by Karn is the right way.
