Pakistan held elections on 25th July 2018, these are historic elections for Pakistan as they mark second successful democratic transition of power in the country’s history.
Election commission of Pakistan (ECP) introduced Results Management System (RMS) and Results Transmission System (RTS) during the current elections. ECP claims these systems had been pilot tested during by-elections in 2017. Yet these systems failed on the big day. Election commission of Pakistan was supposed to declare the results by 2 AM PKT on 26th July 2018 but they did not. As per ECP RTS and RMS failed to handle the election day load. It seems the systems were not performance tested properly.
This has created a serious situation, losing parties are blaming election commission for rigging. Any further delay in results counting is only adding to the suspicion that elections were not fair. Performance Engineering if ignored can create a serious situation, the one that Pakistan is facing now. Historically political parties in Pakistan started agitations in similar situations.
