I got a chance to attend the 10 years celebration of a company in Pune. The HR head shared interesting stories about the company’s journey and how they landed in Pune.
The company was a small company 10 years back, based out of California USA and had around $80 million USD of annual revenue. This company had initially opened an additional office in Beijing China. It was supposed to be a development and support center. But for some reason things were not working in Beijing. HR head did not disclose exactly what was not working. It was decided by the management to close the Beijing office.
Now the company required an office somewhere other than USA. One of the members of management team suggested India. Thats how this company came to India and Pune was chosen because of its colleges and low cost of living compared to Bangalore and other metro cities.
10 years down the line this company now employs close to 2000 people in Pune, its business has grown 5 fold to almost $500 million USD.
Pune was able to triumph Beijing because of education and low cost of living.
