A colleague of mine worked as an English language consultant for many years before getting into computers. He worked as an English language consultant in Taiwan and was fluent in Chinese languages – Mandarin/Cantonese. He claimed that he made more money per hour as an English language consultant than what he makes today as an IT Project Manager.
One day when we were on a tea break, he praised Indian education system, he said people from India have good hold on English language, schools in India might be teaching good English. I in turn praised American education system and informed him how most of the migrant Indians in America like the education system here as it tries to instill creativity in children. The education system in India is more mechanical and focused on securing a well paying job.
He shared his observation that although American education system is creative in nature and he himself was educated in creative American education system and I was from mechanical Indian education system, we both are doing similar mechanical job. We are working like tiny parts of a machine.
